The Story of a Heart Lost in Love
One day, I was walking beside the canal,
And there were many people all around.
Some were happy, some were lost in thought,
Some were laughing, while others cried.
I was quietly passing by that place,
When a man came and held my hand.
Holding my hand, he began to speak,
“I have been asleep for a very long time.
If you have some time, listen to my story,
For I, too, once had four days of youth.
I was handsome, a beautiful young man,
There was hardly anyone like me in the whole village.
I was handsome, a masterpiece of beauty,
Everyone here was in love with me.
Then one day, a beautiful girl won my heart,
She touched my heart and took over my senses.
Just one glimpse of her drove me crazy,
And then, to my surprise, she settled in my heart.
Every moment, I kept dying in her love,
Every day, I followed her all the way to her home.
One day, she was walking ahead, and I was behind her,
She turned around and looked me up and down.
Then she said, ‘What is it that you really want?’
I replied, ‘I only want your company.’
She said, ‘From now on, do not follow me,
Who knows how many have died at this doorstep?
Go and build a world of your own,
Yes, decorate your eyes with some dreams.
Since that very day, my friend, I have remained asleep,
Lost in thoughts of her alone.
My whole life passed away like this,
Wondering at which turn my story would end.
When he finished, I too turned away from there,
And returned to the place from where I had come.
This love, this romance, is not in my control,
This earth and this sky do not belong to us.’”
